Comic Books

Recently, i’ve started reading comic books on my Mac. I find that my portrait monitor really helps for this, because of being a better “fit” in terms of aspect ratio.

The program i use to view the comics is called Comical. It hasn’t been touched since 2006, but it has a Windows, Mac and the source. One thing that i really like, is the ability to decode “.cbr” files. Basically, a comic book RAR. This means that once you’ve acquired your comic, no more processing is required. The image quality is excellent and there are plenty of settings.

Image Filter Menu

One setting, that i really want to understand better, is the image filter setting. You can change the algorithm used to sharpen the images.

On the whole, a good application with many features. If all you need is a comic viewer, the interface is simple and minimalist.

I’m guessing that’s the image filter for when it resizes the picture. Box and Bilinear are gonna cause pretty pixellated resizes, whereas the rest are going to have varying degrees of smoothness, blurriness, and sharpness.
