So now that i’ve settled into my house, i’ve noticed a few things. First of all, i can’t hear my music when in the kitchen and, secondly, i don’t have a printer.
There’s a product that solves both of these problems. The Apple AirPort Express.
The Apple AirPort Express is basically a power brick, that has Wi-Fi, an audio socket, a LAN port and a USB port. This means it can connect/extend a Wi-Fi network, while allowing for iTunes to stream music out of the audio socket, allowing a LAN client to join the network and allowing network printer sharing.
iTunes Music Streaming
So if you have iTunes set up correctly, you’ll get a little box appear next to your Browse button on the bottom of iTunes. When you click this, you get a menu.

As you can see the Living Room speakers have a password. Upon clicking Living Room, the audio automatically starts coming out of the Living Room speakers. As you can also see, it also allows for multiple speakers. Multiple speakers is a feature i’m been thinking about for a while, but i didn’t realise it was a feature for this.
Wireless Printer Sharing
One of my roommates has a printer, so i decided to attach it to the AirPort Express. After a driver install, i tried to print to the printer, and it worked. It’s now defined as my default printer, and works like any other printer.

Overall, the AirPort Express exceeds my expectations. It has several features i was not aware of and works seamlessly.

Just a tip for anyone thinking of setting up wireless printer sharing, ask permission from the person who owns the printer first.
