Last.fm.app

Today, i started to use the Last.fm application on my iPhone and, i must say, i was impressed.

Despite its problems of using battery like Vista uses RAM, and the fact you can’t do anything else while it’s running. The interface is nice, the sound quality was good, and the recommendations it made were also good.

Once again, it has a few major drawbacks. It will eat battery like there’s no tomorrow, and you can’t do anything else if you want it to keep playing. Thirdly, you can’t control it with the button on the headphones.

However, on the whole, i believe that this is a good application, and definitely worth having.

Google Gears for Safari Beta Released

Google Gears is a project from Google that allows web applications to interact with your desktop, store data locally on your machine, and perform resource-intensive JavaScript tasks asynchronously.

A few days ago, Google released a beta version of Google Gears for Safari on Mac OSX, and I’ve given it a try, mainly for WordPress:

With the release of WordPress 2.6, WordPress added a ‘Turbo’ option, available in the top right corner of the WordPress admin screen. This uses Google Gears to speed up the use of the admin interface on your blog, by caching some of the files locally. I’ve given it a try, and I think I can notice a nice speed boost, definitely useful for managing my blog, and writing on Mac Fan Boy of course!

Alan Kay has had a few great quotes over the years, this is one of my favourites.

Actually I made up the term “object-oriented”, and I can tell you I did not have C++ in mind.

He invented Smalltalk, which went on to influence Objective-C, the language that the Mac uses as its core.

Remote.app

Following my purchase of the Airport Express, i thought it would be worth doing a review of the Apple Remote application for the iPhone.

The Remote application complements the AirPort Express giving the user the freedom to move around and still be able to change the music playing on their iTunes Music Library.

AirPort Express

So now that i’ve settled into my house, i’ve noticed a few things. First of all, i can’t hear my music when in the kitchen and, secondly, i don’t have a printer.

There’s a product that solves both of these problems. The Apple AirPort Express.
