Wireless Data Costs

So since i’m moving out of university next year, i’ve been looking to get my internet sorted for next year. So it turns out that our house needs a phone line to be installed. So they can’t do this for 4 weeks and since you can’t have internet service without a phone line. Looks like i’ll be waiting.

So i need to find an alternative solution.

I was looking into the modems sold by T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and Orange. Quite frankly, they suck

They’re £50 to £100 for the modem and then you have to pay for data. £1 per GB unless you fancy paying for a contract. This is a bit out of hand.

Luckily, i have been able to borrow a T-Mobile wireless card. It does however cost £4 per day, which is pretty bad. Which means if i’m in my house for 2 weeks without internet. That could cost me £56, but i guess it’s still cheaper than buying the thing myself.

Overall, the lesson to be learnt here is that BT suck, and that wireless broadband, really isn’t practical. I mean even on a contract, you get limited to a stupidly small amount of bandwidth.

What if you have an iPhone 3G by then? I guess you wont because you will have already thought of this I’m sure, but didn’t I hear it is going to support Bluetooth tethering?
